I'm not even sure where I picked up this three-gradient color style, but I really like it. It helps bring out the lines and draws the eye just right. I'm in love with it as a coloring technique. ^_^
As for the single-nostril smoking, that's part of why I did it that way; his eyes were great and it would've just been unfair to hide them. I think, too, that an instinct in the back of my mind (the part that is telling the story that goes with every single piece of art I do) was saying that he's SO good with his fire powers that he can smoke out of one nostril instead of both.
